After an early breakfast, you will take a thrilling 35-minute scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The flight offers stunning views of the Himalayas, including Langtang, Gauri Shankar, and of course, Everest on a clear day. Lukla is the gateway to the Everest region. From Lukla, you will begin your trek towards Phakding, a small settlement located along the Dudh Koshi River. The trail passes through picturesque Sherpa villages, prayer wheels, and mani stones.
Today, you will trek to Namche Bazaar, the bustling market town and the commercial hub of the Khumbu region. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges adorned with prayer flags. As you ascend, you will get your first views of Everest and neighboring peaks. Namche Bazaar offers stunning views of Kongde Ri and is a great place to acclimatize with a rest day tomorrow.
Acclimatization is crucial for adjusting to the high altitude. Spend the day exploring Namche Bazaar and its surroundings. You can hike up to the Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. Visit the Sherpa Cultural Museum to learn about the local culture and traditions.
Leaving Namche Bazaar, the trail ascends through rhododendron and pine forests with occasional views of Everest. You will reach Tengboche, home to the famous Tengboche Monastery, the largest monastery in the region. The monastery offers stunning views of Everest and hosts daily prayers by the resident monks.
The trail descends through forests before crossing the Imja Khola and ascending to Pangboche village. From here, you continue to Dingboche, a beautiful village nestled beneath Ama Dablam. Dingboche offers breathtaking views of Island Peak and other surrounding peaks.
Another acclimatization day is scheduled in Dingboche to help your body adjust to the altitude. You can take a day hike to Nagarjun Hill or explore the village. The views from Nagarjun Hill include Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and several other peaks.
The trail ascends gradually along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. You will pass through Duglha village and ascend to Lobuche, situated beneath the impressive Lobuche East and West peaks. The trail offers views of Nuptse, Pumori, and other peaks.
Today is the highlight of the trek as you trek to Everest Base Camp. The trail ascends through rocky terrain and the Khumbu Glacier moraine. You will reach Gorakshep, a small settlement located at the base of Kala Patthar. After a short rest, continue to Everest Base Camp, where climbers prepare for their Everest summit attempts. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Khumbu Icefall and surrounding peaks before descending back to Gorakshep for the night.
Early in the morning, hike up to Kalapatthar, the highest point of the trek, for spectacular sunrise views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and many other peaks. After capturing the sunrise views and taking in the scenery, descend back to Gorakshep.
